12 April 2012 marked the founding date of the Community Driven Development Agency (CODDAG), with a registration number of 08653 from the Ministry of Social Protection. Operating within Mandera County and the Neighboring Somalia Sub East Cluster, CODDAG focuses on thematic issues such as Climate Change Adaptation, Peace building and Conflict Management, Education, Water, Sanitation, Food Security, Livelihood Support, and Reproductive Health.
Community Driven Development Agency (CODDAG) is a non-profit community-based Organization working in Mandera County with its headquarters at Mandera Town in Northeastern Province, Kenya. It was registered in the year 2012 with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection as a CBO with certificate number 08653.
CODDAG was initially formed by men and women to respond to emerging Climate Change challenges as a CBO, but now in process to become a national Non-Governmental Organization with the NGO Coordination Board. The organization works at the grass-roots level to support the Agri-pastoral and urban communities through programs on Climate Change and Adaptation, Peace building, Human Security, and mainstreamed with cross-cutting sectors such as governance, environment, human rights, democracy, and education programs to obtain peaceful co-existence within Mandera County.
The vision of the Community Driven Development Agency (CODDAG) is to foster sustainable community-driven development, aiming for enhanced progress and brighter prospects in Mandera County.
The mission of CODDAG is to cultivate an environment that encourages sustainable, community-driven development, fostering social change and working towards building a better tomorrow.

CODDAG’s management structure is designed to encourage flexibility and autonomy among its core management team and subordinate staff. The organization aims to foster intellectual creativity and innovation, creating desirable working conditions for staff members and volunteers. Transparency and accountability are key principles in the management structure. The key management organs of CODDAG include the Board Officials, CEO, Programme Coordinator, Admin/Finance/Programme Officers, Advocacy and Networking Officer, Field Officer Consultant, and subordinate staff. To ensure effective administration interventions, CODDAG has developed functional management practices, stringent internal control systems, and policies such as the Financial Policy, Procurement Policy, Human Resource Development Policy, and Project Implementation Policy.
CODDAG’s operational philosophy is based on the understanding that local people are essentially responsible for their own development. The organization utilizes participatory approaches as effective tools in achieving broad-based development, ensuring that programs are open to all without discrimination based on religion, age, gender, race, or tribal affiliation, with special attention given to women. The promotion of virtues such as integrity, truthfulness, tolerance, service, cooperation, and understanding remain integral in all CODDAG’s activities.
As a non-profit CBO, CODDAG depends on both local and international donors to carry out its programs and support the most vulnerable communities. The donors include UN agencies, International NGOs, government agencies, and local communities. The beneficiaries of CODDAG’s programs are residents of Mandera County, with a focus on youth, children, and women, as well as the broader community members.
Goal: Provide a centralized hub for youth to access education materials in various sectors for building professional skills.
Target: Youth within the county and across borders.
Strategy: Provide formal learning materials for those with limited access to encourage active youth participation in peace-building and promote them as agents of change.
Support for Vocational Training Centers: Objective: Empower youth to earn a living through skills gained in vocational training.
Establishment of Family Life Education Centers: Goal: Improve reproductive health and overall well-being.
Support for Employment Opportunities: Aim: Enhance activities that lead to better employment prospects for trained graduates.
Mechanisms for Sustainability: Objective: Implement strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of vocational training centers.
Linkages with Other Skills/Vocational Training Centers: Strategy: Foster cross-learning and experience sharing among different training centers.
Goal: Address issues such as child labor, child soldiers, human trafficking, and conflict.
Approach: Improve economic opportunities through literacy and job skills training.
Objective: Address illiteracy and innumeracy through accelerated learning principles.
Curriculum: Include practical job skills, leadership, and life skills to assist students in transitioning to formal learning opportunities or gainful employment.
Strategy: Develop customized programs to provide continued support for trainees adapting to new work or educational environments.
Goal: Raise awareness about the harmful effects of FGM on women’s health and well-being.
Approach: Conduct forums that involve community members, religious leaders, and healthcare professionals.
Collaboration: Partner with the Ministry of Health/Medical Services to provide accurate medical information and support.
Goal: Educate communities on the consequences of child labor and promote alternatives for children’s well-being.
Approach: Organize seminars involving parents, educators, and local authorities.
Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to address the root causes and provide support mechanisms for affected families.
Goal: Combat Gender-Based Violence by raising awareness, providing resources, and fostering community support.
Approach: Conduct workshops that include survivors, advocacy groups, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the Ministry of Health/Medical Services to integrate healthcare support for survivors.
Include information on legal aspects related to FGM, child labor, and GBV.
